Overview
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is the first level of formal training, covered under the
Lean Six Sigma methodology. It provides a thorough understanding of process
improvement initiatives, under the guidance of a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt
professional. The course offers an in-depth training on the knowledge demonstration
of Lean Six Sigma tools, to further enable employees to strategize their daily work
and improve efficiency.
Green Belt Training focuses on the principles of variation reduction and Lean
Manufacturing. The goals is shifting a process performance to a desired target and
reducing and controlling the variation.
Green Belts typically support Black Belts and are not always employed as full-time
Green Belts. They often have a full-time role in the company and participate in Six
Sigma projects as needed. However, Green Belts can lead their own teams and have a
Black Belt serve as a mentor.
Green Belt Certification Topics
Green Belt Certification usually requires knowledge or execution of the tools
shown below. At this stage, similar to Yellow Belts, they generally are not
taught to create and manage a DOE. They are introduced to the basic non-normal
distributions and hypothesis testing.

Certification Requirements
Green Belt certifications programs are less rigorous than Black Belt program but more
than Yellow Belt and usually consist of:
- 40 hours – 160
hours of coursework
- Participation in at
least one Six Sigma project
- Mentoring of other
Green Belts, White Belts, or Yellow Belts
- Evidence using
project management tools
- Evidence of
understanding the Lean principles
- Written examination
